With an estimated cost of $507 million, the King Abdullah Sports City is a 60,000 seat stadium known as the ‘jewel in the desert’. The stadium is Saudi Arabia’s first FIFA standard venue, as well as a 2,000 seat indoor stadium and a 1,000 seat athletics pitch. This is alongside a Mosque, luxury hotels and a sports hospital. It will be home to two football teams in the Saudi Arabia professional league.
Townscape was hired as a security consultant by Saudi Arabian based contractors, MSIX, Samsung SDS and the Light Weight Building Company. Our objective was to ensure the stadium complex is safeguarded from vehicle borne terrorist attacks. 600 of Townscape’s PAS 68 Counter Terror (CT) Blocks were created in Saudi Arabia with an international licencing agreement. The blocks were installed as part of a £1.2million contract.
The new premier attraction now has world class perimeter security. The King Abdullah Sports City is now securely covered by the highest level of perimeter security from vehicle borne attacks. The Townscape CT Block was the perfect solution. The 100mm subtle foundation is suited to the local terrain, and the prestigious PAS 68 mark was an essential prerequisite specified by the owners.
